How do I Store my Ponies?

Most people have that I've seen pictures of, store their ponies in rows on shelves. Or if you're like me, you have ponies on your dresser, computer top and anywhere that you can find an empty space. I do recommend shelves though. Others make displays of their ponies in playsets or little scenes or rotate which ones are out depending on what they want to look at that day. It all depends on what you want your ponies to look like and how much room you can afford your babies.

In terms of what's "best" for them, I'll offer this, keep your ponies out of direct sunlight. Many ponies like Posey who have a light pink hair color are at risk to have their lovely pink fade to a whitish-grey (if they haven't already) Other fading to the plastic and symbols can also occur in extreme cases. Buildings such as the Nursery and the Castle are especially susceptable to sunlight fading and discoloration.

Avoid placing your ponies for long periods of time in damp, musty basements or dry attics. Both places will give your pony creepy smells that are almost impossible to get out, but worse than that, humid basements can cause your pony to discolor or develope internal mold. Sometimes it can even lead to "Pony Cancer" This is when a chemical reacation takes place in the plastic. It's yellows or browns the pony in little spots all over the body. It's not like mold that you can sometimes wash out. (See What Is Pony Cancer) It's permanent. If you have a pony suffering from Pony Cancer, this is one place where you can make and exception and submerge your pony in a light water-bleach solution. This will stop the cancer from spreading to other parts of your pony. Just to be extra safe, I also treat the spots with nail polish remover as well. Beware of buying ponies with this cancer as it will spread from an infected pony to a perfectly healthy and mint pony. And never send untreated cancer ponies with mint ones. The brown joy will spread. The danger of ponies in attics is that it can dry out the plastic and cause discoloration or it will dry out the hair and make it course and more likely to frizz.

If you want to keep your ponies in bags, use clear ziplock bags only as other bags color tends to blead into the vinyl of the pony. Don't ever store wet ponies in bags either. And don't store your ponies near a heat source such as heating vents/radiators/portable heaters, ect..heat will damage and possibly melt hair plus add to degeneration of vinyl itself. Also, to store a pony in box, first wrap in plain uncolored tissue paper, plastic baggie, and then box, and store in a cool, well ventilated area.
