The History of MLP's and a Brief Overview

My Little Ponies were cute little plastic horsies first introduced in 1981. Orignally called My Pretty Pony, which was bigger than the classic MLP and more clunky, was the beginning of the My Little Ponies that we all know and love that were introduced in 1982. The little ponies had a very popular run, but nothing lasts forever and My Little Ponies were no exception. After a few years of poor sales, the last pony was put out in the US in 1992, 10 years after the first pony. Some international countries continued to produce ponies for a few years afterwards but eventually that ended and it seemed as if new my little ponies would never been seen again. This first production run of MLP's is termed G1 (Generation 1)

Luckily for us, Hasbro released a new line of ponies in 1997. Termed G2 ponies (Generation 2) They were met with mixed reviews as these ponies were tiny, thinner and didn't look at all like the old ponies we fell in love with. Some people detested them, and others adored the new look, but either way, this production was stopped after only 2 years in the States. New ponies were made for a few more years in some Europian countries.

Then, in the summer of 2003, Hasbro released the third run of MLP's! (G3's). These were almost exactly what collectors had hoped for! This production run is very similar to the original style release of My Little Ponies, although the ponies are just a little smaller in size.

It continues to be very successful and is currently ongoing to this day.
