Where do I Start?
The road in colleting My Little Ponies can seem very overwhelming and
complicated at first. Mostly what you need is just to take the time and patience to
get in the game and start learning things from personal experience. First start off
by identifying your ponies.
What should I Look For in a My Little Pony?
Many people don't mind a few minor flaws such as a slight symbol scratch
or minor hair frizziness, while others must find the completely mint
pony. This all depends on you as a collector and what you
specifically are looking for in your ponies.
How Do I ID a Pony?
Getting the ID to your ponies would be complicated and difficult if it wasn't for
Dream Valley! Kimberly has a step by step process that lets you very easily identify
almost every My Little Pony evermade.
How Do I Find a Pony's Value?
Keep an eye on ebay auctions, both current and completed. You can also check out
the
Price Check Archives on the MLP Arena. If the item you're looking for isn't listed,
you can start a new thread and the community will more than likely provide you
with the information.
How Do I ID Accessories?
There are many different classifications of accessories. Some came on the cards
or boxes with our beloved ponies (ie Princess Accessories, Big Bro items, etc). Others
came with playsets like the Dream Castle, Nursery, and so on. Others came in the form
of pony wear or pony accessory packs.
How Do I Spot a Fakie?
The one big giveaway of a fakie is looking at the bottom of the horses hooves. A real
My Little Pony will have the company of "Hasbro" written on the bottom of one of the the hooves,
as well as a copywrite date directly above it.
How Do I Find My Little Ponies?
Easy, everywhere! Swap meets, garage sales, thrift and second hand stores,
antique malls, internet auction sites, personal my little pony web sites,
your neighbors, your family, your coworkers, your friends. Explore the toy
sections and booths in regional markets and swapmeets. Check for toy
listings in the garagesale section of your local newspaper, check with your
friend and collegues who have children who have out grown their childhood
toys, put ads in local newspapers, free papers and on bulletin boards.
New Ponies
In 2003, Hasbro once again released My Little Pony. The third generation or G3's. This time, the ponies
were almost identical to the original My Little Ponies
of the 80's, but a little smaller. This run has proved much more successful and is ongoing to this day. There are
hundreds, if not thousands of new ponies. They also have their own mail orders, playsets, accessories, movies, and computer games.
What are CF's and FF's?
The flat foot
ponies have just that, flat feet. There are round circles imprinted one the
bottom of their hooves along with the copywrite info. All other ponies both
rereleased collector and beyond have concave hooves.
Playsets/Mail Orders/Store MLP's?
When looking at trade lists or auctions, some terms you will probably see are
'mail order ponies' or 'mo', 'playset' ponies and 'store' ponies.
These terms are used to explain the type of pony offered and where it
originated from...
Variations and do I have One?
Variations are any ponies that have a factory flaw or different foreign (and sometimes local)
designs that makes them unique. This includes
different colored hair, different symbols, poses, symbol paint. There's so much to variations
and some of the best links we've found...
